Alana was born in Atlanta, GA into a military family where she moved to various places during her youth. Upon graduating with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Georgia College & State University she was commissioned into the U.S. Navy as an Ensign. During her 22 years as a Naval Officer she has deployed aboard ship, served in the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay Cuba and “green side” with the Marine Corps as a Fleet Marine Force Qualified Officer. While active duty she obtained her Master of Science in Nursing Education from the University of Arkansas and a post graduate certificate in Forensic Science from the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology. She has served as a special expert advisor on forensic medical management to the Navy Surgeon General and the Commandant of the Marine Corps. She retired from active duty in June 2021 as the Director of Public Health aboard Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point at the rank of Commander.
Alana is married to Mike Huber, a retired USMC Colonel and former Commanding Officer of Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point. Mike currently works as a pilot for American Airlines. Together they have 5 children. The oldest, Caitlin, and her husband Simon and their two daughters Reeves & Collins reside in Cumming, GA. Caitlin is a realtor in the Atlanta metropolitan area and Simon works in Data Analytics. Her daughter Ashley and fiancé Jonathan live in Marietta, GA where Ashley is a Talent Acquisition Coordinator and Jonathan is a Healthcare Recruiter. Their middle daughter, Sara, is currently a Student Naval Aviator in Pensacola, FL and is working towards her wings of gold as a Navy Pilot. Twins, Nathan and Lily, are rising high school seniors. Nathan is a student at the North Carolina School of Science and Math, and Lily attends the Epiphany School of Global Studies.
Due to their military careers, Alana and Mike have lived in Eastern NC off and on since 2002, but thanks to retirement they have finally found their forever home in downtown New Bern where they intend to stay. Alana is the president of AH Forensic Consulting, Inc and is active in the New Bern Woman’s Club and a member of First Presbyterian Church.
As a New Bern city Alderman she aims to foster smart growth while preserving the city’s historic charm. High on her list are issues such as transportation, drainage, and parks & recreation; ultimately increasing the quality of life for the citizens of downtown New Bern.
